Biography

Joanne Kennedy – MSc, NZRSP, MCSP, MACP

Jo is a registered Specialist Physiotherapist (Musculoskeletal) in Christchurch, New Zealand. She practises at Sports Clinic. Jo has a particular focus on the spine and spinal-related conditions.

Jo also holds an ‘Expert’ designated position in Christchurch Hospital’s Emergency Department team as a Primary Care Physiotherapist. She is on the executive committee of the NZMPA.

Jo completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and later returned to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy in Manchester. She went on to achieve her Master’s degree in Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy with distinction at Kings College in London.

She worked at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, as a research coordinator for the Global Spine tumour study group under Professor David Choi.

Wanting to return to clinical practice, she then worked as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner with a special interest in spinal triage at an NHS hospital in South East London. Her role included ordering imaging and organising workups before surgery.

Jo worked as the Clinical Director at Port Hills Physiotherapy after moving to Christchurch in 2018. In 2021 she began in internship with Mark Laslett and worked alongside Mark until she gained Specialist status in April 2024.

Jo and Mark continue to work together on various research projects.
